Health Insurance
Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services whilst in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website: www.moh.govt.nz

Medical and Travel Insurance
International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance whilst studying in New Zealand. The ELS can provide and invoice the student for health and travel insurance and apply for insurance on the student’s behalf via an approved provider. If you wish to source your own insurance provider you will need to provide the ELS with the name of the insurance company and the policy number. For further information on health and travel information please refer to the Ministry of Health website: www.moh.govt.nz

Prescription Medicines
New Zealand has strict rules on bringing prescription medicines into the country. You should provide a letter from your doctor certifying your medicines and do not bring more than three months supply. Please check the New Zealand Customs website on: www.customs.govt.nz

Accident Insurance
The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) provides accident insurance for New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand. The ACC does not cover all costs and students may still be liable for medical and related costs. Further information can be found on the website: www.acc.co.nz
